Our Panel will discuss the Mass Open Online Courses they have been developing at UNSW, what they aim to do and how they can help you be more Innovative and Entrepreneurial.

Dr Martin Bliemel,
Senior Lecturer, UNSW Business

Dr Martin Bliemel is a Senior Lecturer in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at UNSW Australia. Martin’s research interests include entrepreneurial networks, business acceleration, and research commercialization. His award winning research has been published in several prestigious journals including Nature Nanotechnology, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and the Entrepreneurship Research Journal. He has also won several awards for his teaching, including a highly prestigious and competitive Citation from the Office of Learning & Teaching (Australian federal government).

In the MOOC he has developed, participants are encouraged to ‘stop tinkering alone in your garage’ and to iteratively validate how you can create value for others by interacting with them in a thoughtful manner. The course consists of 6 modules. Each module has a brief introductory video, templates and resources, and activities that encourage you to get real feedback about your idea.

Dr Jenny Buchan (LLB, LLM, PhD)
Associate Professor
School of Taxation and Business Law in the Business School at UNSW Australia.

Prior to becoming an academic in 2002 Jenny worked for 19 years as a commercial lawyer in private practice in New Zealand and Australia. During her time in Melbourne she represented shopping centre clients in their negotiations with franchisors. This sowed the seed for her enduring fascination with franchise relationships and the growing field of franchise law.

Jenny is the author of the book Franchisees as Consumers: Benchmarks, Perspectives and Consequences (Springer, 2013) and of articles on a wide range of franchise law related issues.

Jenny is a member of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's Small Business and Franchising Consultative Committee, the Law Society of NSW, the International Society of Franchising and ARITA.

She is on the Editorial Review Board of two journals and is the inaugural Book Review Editor of the Journal of Marketing Channels.

Jenny teaches franchise law, international franchise law and contract law. Her research passions are franchise law and policy; in particular the intersection of franchising with consumer protection and insolvency law. In 2016 she is hosting the world’s first MOOC on International Franchise Law.

Dean Utian
School of Architecture
UNSW Built Environment

Dean Utian teaches under Architecture at UNSW Built Environment as well as supports staff with technology enhanced learning and teaching. His approaches have been presented at UNSW Learning and Teaching Forums and have been recognised as for their innovation and impact through teaching excellence awards. Dean has been involved in the Built Environment’s first MOOC, Re-enchanting the City: Designing the Human Habitat in the course design and development.
